Logistics

The Humber region has a wide range of logistics assets such as the ports, three airports and a number of other logistics sites. This has led a number of logistics companies to locate into the area. The logistics companies vary from being trucking companies to companies who deal with the customs at the ports. In the industry, thousands of people are employed and the companies provide logistics support to a number of other organisations in the region and all over the UK. The industry accounts for about 7% of the employment in the region with about 22,000 people being employed in the industry. This number is likely to grow over the next few years as businesses locate to the Humber to support the growing energy industry. An example of this is due to the growing number of people needing to be transported offshore, businesses who specialise in this, will likely want a base in the region. Also, it isn’t just the offshore industry needing logistics now the Humber is becoming the location to import Biomass, jobs are being created at the ports and throughout the supply chain.
