Opening in 2005, the airport has provided a wider range of flights out of the Humber and surrounding area. A business park is currently being developed which will increase business use of the airport. Part of the new development is a road link which will provide a link into the UK motorway network. The airport has land which can be further developed.

The airport can handle a large amount of cargo and has one of the UKs largest NEQ capabilities of 45,000kgs.

The airport has a number of facilities that aid in handling a wide variety of cargo. A list of some of the facilities that the airport has at its advantage are listed below:
